Welcome to day 4 of Deck the Halls! I hope you're enjoying this festive series of tutorials that my friends have put together.

Hello! My name is Adrianne and I am so excited that Jennifer invited me to help you Deck Your Halls!! This time of year inspires me to get crafty and today we're going to make a festive dotty garland. This fun piece can be hung in so many places like: mantles, trees, windows, banisters, shelves and headboards. Let me show you how to make it.
- Felt, 4 sheets of different colors
- Thread
- Scissors or a Die Cutter
- Sewing Machine or Hand sewing needle
- Marking Pen (optional)
DIRECTIONS
 |
| 1) Gather your supplies |
 |
| 2) Cut out your circles either with a die cutter (2a) or by tracing around your thread and cutting out with scissors (2b). Circles should measure about 1.5" across. |
 |
| 3) I used 64 circles (16 of each color) to make an 11' garland. |
 |
| 4) Decide on a pattern, or go completely random. It's up to you! |
 |
| 5) Chain stitch your circles together leaving about .5" in-between circles. Do not cut your thread until you have sewn all the circles together. |
 |
| 6) Time to Decorate!! Find a place to hang your new Dotty Garland. |
 |
| 7) When it's time to store your garland, wrap it around a piece of cardboard to avoid tangling. |
OPTIONS
- Change the length by cutting more or less circles. Four circles equals about 8" of garland.
- Have fun with the color combo. One color, two colors, or ten colors, you can't go wrong.
- Hand stitch circles together with perl cotton for a fun chunky look.
- Layer another smaller circle on top to make it extra dotty.
- Use colored thread instead of white. How about a festive red?
RESOURCES
- Felt: Retro Mama and Heather Bailey have a good selection of high quality felt.
- Die Cutter: I recommend the Sizzix Big Shot and the 1.5" circle die
- Thread: Use a strong thread that will last such as Aurifil.

Hmmmmm, I haven't used my Go cutter to cut felt yet, but I'm thinking I might have to try it out!! Really cute, thanks.
Ooh, I love this! I have a birthday felt garland just like this, but in rainbow colors and my kids smile every time I bring it out. I wish I had a diecut machine for this project alone--every event in my household would have it's own felt garland!

I made a felt garland a few months back and I love it! I don't have a die cutter though and had to cut out all the circles by hand - wasn't so bad. I also used different sizes of circles.

i've made alot of these since I bought my bigshot with card and felt, hearts, circles, stars, so easy and look beautiful. I'm going to make a snowflake one for our tree :)

So so so cute! I was thinking about doing this with scrapbook paper a while back (I have a bunch from before I went digital and a 2" hole punch). I wasn't sure if sewing paper would be a bad idea. I was thinking I could just use an old needle...not sure if the paper would do anything bad to my machine though. Anyone know?
My 6 year old daughter would love to do this project together! So simple, but great impact. Thanks for sharing.
Oh, I just love the garland and it's so easy and quick to make ~ thanks so much for the tutorial. I always make a decoration for my son and dil and they would just LOVE this!

This is so cute! Sadly I don't have a Go or a Sizzix so it will be good old scissors for me :/
