Ideas for Summer Fun

Summer's here and the natives are restless!

I figured I better put together a list of things to do so I won't be scrambling for ideas all summer long.

Not sure how many of these we'll accomplish but I can dream big, right?

What are your favorite summer activities to do with kids?

We spend a lot of our summer mornings at the park (a nice way to get the kids outside before the brutal heat sets in). We also make a lot of popsicles, granola bars and this year I want to try my hand at homemade ice cream.

My kids are grown, but we did a lot on your list. We made play doh, grew a crystal garden using borax (instructions on box)' made "stained glass" using waxed paper sheets , crayon shavings and a hot iron, exploded vinegar and alka seltzer tablets in old film canisters, walked to the used book store, made "check out cards" for all their books so they could play library and on and on and on.

I love lists like this, and am bookmarking them all over the place. Even though we're not going away, I want this summer to be fun for the kids. I have no specific lists myself yet.

Marshmallow wars! Big marshmallows are cheap and easy to throw. AND they don't hurt when they hit you. It is a great way to liven up a sleepy day.

Have you ever gone geocaching? http://www.geocaching.com/
Me neither. :(
But my friend who homeschools her kids does, and it sounds like TONS of fun! What could be bad about a real live treasure hunt??

Mine are almost 22 and 23, so my favourite thing to do with them is ... send them to work :D

When they were little, however, they thought it was pretty cool to sleep outside in a tent in the back yard!

We join the summer reading program at the library and go there at least once a week. A neighborhood near us has a free "splash park" so we try to hit that a few times each summer. Some of the local movie theaters have free or $1 movies on certain days--a great way to beat the heat!

Too cute, I love your list! Now I'm inspired!
On Fridays in the summer we often have pajama day - hang out and do crafts, snuggle and read, and then good straight from pajamas to swimsuits and head to the pool!

At lunch the other day, my friends and I were just talking about this...when our kids were small, during the summer we would just let them loose in the cul-de-sac. They would play all day. Tuesdays were beach days and we all went to the beach and once a week there were kid swaps where someone had the other's kids for a few hours. By the time the end of August came along we were counting the days until school started again. Sounds like with this list, you will have a great summer with your kids.
