But, this by no means means I am headed off to the woods to go camping or hiking or any other super outdoorsy adventure.
I don't do nature up close. This might make me a bit prissy but I do not like bugs or being dirty and prefer my bed to be indoors. I think I would be up for more adventures if they didn't involve bugs.

But with kids, it's fun to get out and explore a little bit.
So, we took the kids on a walk on the greenway in town this week, and it's one of my favorite naturey places to go.

I can appreciate and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature without having to be off the path.
Just to be clear, I have done a few outdoorsy things: I've been camping (once was enough) and I've hiked Grandfather mountain in NC a LONG time ago (which was pretty fun.) I used to play in the woods and the creek as a kid, and I've been paragliding and hiking in Switzerland (which was awesome!)
But these days I prefer to enjoy nature if I don't have to get too close. I know, I know, some of you are probably rolling your eyes.
The Greenway is awesome though. It goes through town in sections and has been an ongoing project in Charlotte for the past several years. There are other parts that are more urban that I am looking forward to checking out too.
This particular stretch though is woodsy and runs along a creek and a swamp. We found all kinds of fun things to look at on our walk.
We are definitely going back soon!

You are funny! I would be under canvas as much as possible if it didn't involve constant paranoia that my stuff was going to be stolen!
Looks like a great boarded walk though x
Oh I am so with you on that one! We use to camp a lot when we were first married, we use to pack everything on to a motorbike and come to France and Italy and had a fabulous time. Now...it has to be a caravan or camper van with a proper bed and it's own shower and toilet..no way will I stay in a tent and sleep on the floor now..nope not going to happen. Hugs
No eye rolling from me! I stand in your corner. Bugs seek me out for beginners. I must be a tasty morsel. I did go camping...once...in a tent in a state park with facilities. I got the experience and moved on with my life!!
I am SO with you as far as camping. Been there, done that. I require minimal comforts of hot water, toilet and shower. I think I would like walking along our San Joaquin River Parkway. However, I'm always afraid there are "slithery" things that enjoy it as well, and they totally freak me out!
You made me laugh!! I agree 100% with you. I love being outside....my husband and I worked outside all weekend, building a waterfall into our large pond....I liked it. I hike some...have large gardens. But I don't camp!! I have never slept in a tent on the ground....don't want to either....lol.....I hate mosquitos, but we do get them during the summer months...have to put up with them...
great pictures you took too..
I concur 100%!!!!!!
When I was a kid, my family went on a number of camping trips & I hated it then! I consider Motel 6 to be about as roughing it as I can stand!
My mother in law used to say she was a motel, poolside camper. Me too. I been there done that got the t-shirt. No more.
Beautiful pictures! I love nature, but will get up close to it. We haven't been camping in years. Still trying to figure out how to work that one in with a toddler. :) Happy Spring! :)
I'm right there with you when it comes to camping. My biggest deterrent is poison ivy.
Oh, I love camping! But I have to say I am with you on the indoor bed thing! We have a HUGE camper (blogged about it here http://jocrazymama.blogspot.com/2011/08/pics-galore-of-my-new-camper.html ) So I'm not so sure how much people would consider that 'roughing it'! LOL But I do love to hike and get dirty and not have to do my hair or make-up! As long as I don't sweat too much!
Hehehe! I love camping in theory, but you are right, sometimes the comforts of home just outweigh sleeping on the ground! I do really enjoy dayhiking, snowshoeing, and camping for a couple nights (any more than that without access to a shower is not pleasant). That greenspace looks awesome!
you are so fun jen! i think you just need to camp in idaho. there are not nearly as many bugs here, and we have motorcycles... xo
I have to say that I love to camp! I didn't always, but learned to love it when I started white water kayaking in college. But I do hate bugs! I don't go without my trusty bug wipes (better then spray!)
Love all your pictures, it looks beautiful there!

Camping to me means 3 stars, 3 star motel that is! I don't mind camping but hubby drives me crazy sweeping everything all the time. No relaxing with him around.
I am with you on the bugs and dirt. I hate bugs and critters of any kind. I do love camping and hiking as long as I am with my husband who will protect me from bugs and critters.
We live in a cabin in a redwood forest, so camping is just like being at home with the power off. We do our camping in a motel! We hang out at the campsite with family and friends during the day, then back to a bed and a shower at night. It works for us!
LOL, I don't do camping either. I love getting out in nature, I love hiking - but give me a nice comfy indoor bed at the end of the day, please. : ) I've also been hiking in Switzerland, and those Swiss know how to hike, don't they? On some trails there are overnight lodges every 10 or 15 miles! Perfect!!
You are funny...I don't do camping or bugs either! of course I love camping if there is a hotel involved!!!
Looks like a fun place to visit! You probably wouldn't have loved to spend this weekend with me, armed with a camera I was wading through peat bogs, gallivanting around the beach, scrambling around lakes, splashing through streams and having picnic lunches on rural bridges in the middle of the Irish countryside. Sure, washing machines and Vanish were invented for a reason ;o)
How about camping in an RV? We have one of those silver airstreams. It has all the comfort from home. Nice bed, good sheets, pillows, kitchen, bathroom. That's what I call camping...
you'd love an RV... trust me.
I love to look at nature but appreciate a good bed and a warn shower. Nice photos. Let's go there when I visit!
I love nature and I'm not afraid to get up close, but camping is not for me, either. My first time camping was in the Scottish Highlands. In May. It was about 40 degrees and it almost rained constantly. Needless to say, that was also my last time camping...
As an over-50, my camping days are way behind me. I prefer my bed indoors - preferably my own!
