Do you have any suggestions for Picnik substitutes? Any insight to how Google+ will use Picnik?
Until then, I am making buttons to stockpile. :) Here's my new blog button. Feel free to grab one!

Inkscape and/or GIMP? These are free alternatives to photoshop and illustrator - so are much mroe powerful than picnik.
I have no idea, im looking into alternatives myself but I think i'll wait till picniks gone and see what Flickr is using as a replacement but I'd like to know how to make a blog button in the first place? *is clueless*
I agree, totally bummed about Picnik! I hope Flickr offers a new alternative.
I also vote for tute on blog buttons. I can never find any of the web tutes to work properly.
I'm bummed too and keep thinking they'll announce some intro to the new version at Google.
I just learned of this option from The Mother Huddle, ipiccy, http://ipiccy.com/ I haven't used it yet, but am checking it out...
I use PhotoScape - a free download. It is easy to crop, brighten, sharpen, and you can create mosaics or add text. I like it alot. Love your new button!
I'm sad about Picnik too - will be interested to see what alternative Flickr offers. Gwenny Penny asked the question in a post a little while ago and there are some good suggestions in the comments. I was thinking about making a new header and blog button before the switch, just in case!
I keep looking a GIMP, but it all seems very technical for this technofobe! Would love a quick insight into how you make your button on Picnick before its gone! :)
Hi Jennifer,
Rhoda did a post a few weeks ago about this and what she uses. Here is the link.

I signed up for Aviary, then got as confused as I do with Photoshop so backed away quickly!
I came by to weep and wail about Piknik as well, and then weep and wail that you can do your own blog button! As I see, others are jealous as well!
blog buttons are a mystery to me !!!yes i will miss piknik !!
Ooh, never used Picnik, sorry! But I do know that GIMP is a good free download with a lot of similarities to Photoshop (which is what I use)
Great button! I like Pixlr. It is very similar to Photoshop.
I'm grieving the demise of Picnik, as well. Will have to check out some of the suggestions your commenters have made for an alternative. Your buttons are great. How do you make the html link?~karen
The version of Picnik on Google is pretty decent. Doesn't have ALL the bells and whistles Picnik did, but it does the job for me.
I would also like to beg for a tut on making a blog button.
Picnik lover here too....
Hi! Your button is beautiful and really good! I should learn how to add all the info in 'the box'?!
Thanks also for the other comments for info in this matter!

i really really really hope flickr offers a replacement. i love being able to edit and upload so easily on picnic. maybe if we all start sending picnic emails begging them not to go it wont happen... ;) i have photoshop elements but haven't used it because i use picnic... that will have to change... boo hoo!
pixlr.com/express has been what I have been using. It is a good stand by for picnik. I am really sad about losing picnik.
Not sure what to use after picnik but I too would love to know how to make a blog button. ♥
This might be useful http://pixlr.com/editor/ It's a bit like Photoshop, but online...any good?
I personally use Gimp...I also have inkscape but I haven't quite mastered that.
I was in mourning, too. Then I hear some x-picnikers are creating a replacement - www.picmonkey.com - It is supposed to launch soon
YAY!!
Hi Jennifer,
lemonadegal nailed it! But we just wanted to reiterate from the horse's (err...monkey's) mouth - there's a definite Picnik alternative's swingin' your way soon, www.PicMonkey.com. It's from former Picnikers! We think it's going to be just as great...if not better...than your old fave!
Sign up PicMonkey's site and we’ll keep you updated on a launch date. Also, feel free to send me your feedback, feature requests, and, of course, any questions you have!
Cheers,
Jenn
The thing is that when you upload to a site like Flickr, they do nasty things to your photograph. (They do this for technical reasons and Flickr does less to your photographs than a site like, say, Tumblr.) The compression of your shadow area, that you may have worked so hard in Photoshop to preserve, is one of the nasty things that Flickr does. An in-house editing system, therefore, is not just a handy add-on , but, in my opinion, mandatory for serious photographers who aim to maintain technical and artistic excellence. In other words, Flickr had better offer a good replacement to Picnic or expect to lose a lot of their best photographers.
PicMonkey is fantastic!
