Edited and Updated....
I've heard back from a couple of you that have had problems with spam once turning off word verification. I am really sorry that has happened to you!
So how about this? Can we place the word verification box directly under the comment box so that it can be filled out at the same time as the comments?
I think the frustration with word verification comes when the comment is entered and you think you've left a comment only to find that you now have to leave a verification word - sometimes you've already moved on before you realize this and your comment is not saved- all that comment love doesn't show up. :(
That being said- I totally understand that this whole word verification thing is there to prevent spam so have a go without it- see what you think, but if you get spam, then by all means, turn it back on! :)

It's funny... I read your post about turning off the word verification thing last night! I agree... it is a pain to always have to type in some silly word, but I've gotten three spam comments in less than 12 hours. Blogger did a good job of not publishing them, so I'm not too concerned about it. I think I'll see what happens in the next week or so and see how it goes.
Hope you have a great weekend!
Jessica
yes, please if you want word verification, let us do that at the same time we comment, and only have to publish once...........:D
I got some spam too, but so far it was just one post and blogger caught it. I'll leave mine off for the time being, I know how much easier it is to post without word verification!
I have found that NOT using word verification is going well. I have received a few spam comments but Blogger intercepts them. You must be careful about words and titles used so an not to attract the wrong comments, too. But over-all, I agree, get rid of word verification.
I don't use word verification, but don't think I have gotten spam. How would I know? Would there be lots of entries by the same person?
Love LACK of verification, but if it has to be there it would be MUCH better if everything could be done at one time....FOR SURE! LOL...I often find that I was on the "slower" computer and didn't wait long enough to get the second screen saying I needed to verify...and therefore my comment was not published...LOL. Yes, I am impatient.LOL
I am going to have to leave myself a comment to see what happens - I can't remember what mine does!
I don't think I have word verification turned on; but, I do have moderation turned on. Most comments get through w/o moderation. It's only those that are flagged as spam that do not get through along with those comments entered on posts older than 14 days. I've had spammers hit the old posts in the past -- rotten people! LOL. :-)
Glad you did the post, word verification makes leaving comments take soooo much longer!
I have a number of blogs, and never use annoying word verification on my blogs. What I do is have any comments made after the 1st day, sent to my email for approval. That stops all spam from ever being posted.
This is so brilliant!! I'm learning so much - I've just done what Jan suggested as they always seem to spam old posts. Also I don't have work verification because blogger does seem to catch them!
Spam schspam! I hardly get any spam even on old posts and if I do, blogger seems to pick it up.
still no problems for me. word verification be gone!
You certainly started a discussion on this one, didn't you? tee-hee!
I've never had word verification. I get spam once in a while, but Blogger does a good job of filtering it.
Word verification doesn't bother me much when I comment - in this day and age, it's just part of life on the computer. But, I do agree it should appear first thing where you comment. I've gotten pretty savvy and now always make sure I get a message saying my comment has been saved or published before I sign off. :)
