Last summer I started the Charlotte chapter of the Modern Quilt Guild, and we have 30 great members. This is what I love about our guild:
- The people: they are all so nice, enthusiastic, encouraging and fun.
- The love: they all dig modern quilting and embrace everyone's interpretations.
- The talent: boy is there some talent in this group!
- The diversity: we have all ages and all skill levels.
- The fun: we are a relaxed, informal group.
Last Thursday night we had our Kona Solids Challenge Reveal at a local cafe. We sipped wine and coffee and nibbled snacks as we had a chance to chat and visit before we had the reveal.
This is my Kona Challenge Quilt.
Looks familiar, right? (The tutorial for this block is HERE.)
I love the way it turned out- feels modern and fresh to me.
It's 22.5" x 29," and I think it might become a wall hanging in my sewing room or else I'll let my daughter use it as a doll quilt.

The other Kona Challenge quilts were so creative and diverse. You can see them all in our CLT MQG Flickr group.
Such a great group of ladies! I am looking forward to lots more CLT MQG fun in the new year. If you're in the Charlotte area, we'd love for you to join us!
If you have a Modern Quilt Guild in your area, you should check it out. If not, why not start your own?

Jennifer

wow Jen, this is really nice. Love the dark Kona Coal (right) with all the bright colors. And that pink binding...awesome. ANd then the back is as nice as the front. Great finish!
Oooh, love it, the grey with all those colours, and the improv blocks!
I'm so jealous that you can meet up with other modern quilters around you. Thank goodness there is Blogland! The quilt is right up my alley. Fantastic!
I am jealous too, I think we have a Frumpy Old Lady Guild in the village, but I am not ready for that!
Your quilt is a stunner!
Thanks many times over for the inspiration - i need to make a quilt for a 14 year old boy with cancer whose room is decorated in purple, lime green and red - and I was at a total loss on what to make for him. I knew I'd have to use solids, but couldn't think of a design I liked. This is perfect!!!
I WISH we had a MQG in the uk, but I dont think we do... Your quilts are beautiful!
Very nice Jennifer!
Ohhh super cute and funky. Love both sides.
Wine, coffee,& quilting??? Sounds like my kind of party :). Love how your project turned out!
Gorgeous, Jennifer. I couldn't believe the dimensions... so much detail for the size! It must be nice to be a part of a group of women who share a love for quilting and sewing :)
My DD and I are both members of the newly formed (in October) Sydney Modern Quilt Guild.
Gorgeous!! Love the gray background with the brighter colours.
Oh wow, Jennifer, I love your quilt! Stunning!! :) I would love to be part of the Kansas City modern quilt guild, but they meet on Thursday nights and I am about 2 hours drive time from there. Boo! So...I get my fix via blogs and flickr and wonderful folks like you!! :)
Just had to say that I love this quilt. It speaks to me.
I wish there was a modern guild here - very envious. Agree with Di - love your quilt and the quilting - I want to try that soon.
This is gorgeous Jennifer! Love the improv block against the dark background. Sounds like you had fun too :-)
I love your solids challenge project! It's awesome. I recently joined my MQG, and I'm even being sworn in as an officer at our December meeting!
Great job. Love the dark grey.
wow. this is SO beautiful!
Hi, Jennifer! You left a comment on my chile colorado burrito post, so I looked up your blog. I'm so glad I did! I love your work! The colors, the shapes, the quilting. I would have a quilt blog like this if I had about 24 more hours in a day. :) I am also a teacher turned stay-at-home mom turned teacher again. I've subscribed to your email updates, so I'm looking forward to your future creations!
