Oh it was a good weekend!

Highlights of the last week and a weekend:
I finished up 3 quilt tops and one quilt!  (This many finishes in one week is CRAZY!) Two just needed borders but whew! Hmmmm, now to find the time to quilt them. I'd love to show you pictures but they are gifts and well, that would ruin the surprise!

I also whipped up a little zip pouch for my SSSwap partner... hope they like it! I am super happy with the result because I FINALLY figured out how to do perfect zipper ends thanks to Anna's fab illustration here

Then I got inspired and made two ruffled eye glass cases.

I think I might be obsessed with ruffles now. I am imagining all kinds of cute things I can put them on....

So Charlotte finally, finally got their first Jo Ann's (Finally!) and I had to make a trip there for the grand opening weekend. Walked in on Saturday and the checkout line was to the back of the store- I kid you not. Um, as I had a husband and two kids waiting for me at another store, I did not shop on Saturday.

Went back yesterday and only to discover my stack of grand opening coupons were not valid on Sunday! But thank goodness for the kindness of sewing strangers because the sweet lady standing beside me at the cutting counter and I got to talking about modern quilting and low and behold she gave me her 60% off coupon just because! This was HUGE because all of that batting I was buying for those 3 quilts I mentioned above... she saved me a ton! Plus the lady cutting my fabric gave me another $15 off coupon so y'all, I saved $92.00!

$92.00!!!  SCORE! I was thrilled to say the least. :)

We've had quite a bit of fabulous fall weather - warm days and tons of pretty leaves.
All the beautiful ones in my neighborhood are sadly not the ones in my yard.

But we do have lots to jump in!

Plus my daughter had successful quiet reading time in her room yesterday afternoon for almost an hour (this is BIG!) AND I got to see Breaking Dawn on Friday night.
I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it.
Been listening to the soundtrack all weekend on Spotify. (Do you Spotify?) I've got to see it again and how in the world am I supposed to wait until next year for the last one?!!!
I have a feeling I will be rereading the saga again soon....

I've got a fun giveaway for you tomorrow so stay tuned. :)

xo,
Jennifer

Nothing beats JoAnn’s for cheap notions and batting, but only when you have coupons! I have a feeling that, considering the sheer number of coupons they make available and the serious sales they have (everything in the store goes on sale at least once a quarter), the markup on regular-priced items must be astronomical.

I once went in there and spent something like $80, but my receipt said I saved over $150… it is almost a game for me to make sure every purchase says I saved more than the total amount due.

Congrats on your own savings, and having one local! (And I am very inspired to make my own glasses case like that now!)

Sounds like an awesome weekend! Good for you on getting so much done and for getting lucky with the coupons. I've had little old ladies hand me one when I've forgotten mine too. The kindness in the sewing/quilting community always makes me smile.

Sounds like you had a great weekend! I saw breaking dawn too! Why do they torture us for a whole year? Have you read The Hunger Games series? I guarantee you will love them! And the first movie comes out in March so you'll have something to hold you over til the last Twilight movie! Have a great Thanksgiving!

Between all the sewing you finished, the fantastic $avings at joanns and the fun times playing in the leaves with your kids I'd say you had the perfect weekend. Oh and not to mention your time at the movie. Lucky girl.

Those coupons at Joann's are the best. I will have to get some batting soon to finish up several projects. I did not see the movie but my daughter and daughter in laws all did. What fun fall pictures.

Could someone pleeeeeease tell JoAnn's or Spotlight or any store that does discount vouchers and fabric together at the same time to come to the UK?!!! We need it! How nice the kindness of strangers and the money saved. Even nicer are your leaf photos. I love jumping in leaves. Hate raking them but love jumping in!

YOur zippered pouch looks PERFECT! I love it!

And I too am a secret fan of the twilight series... Don't know when I will get to sneak away to see the new movie. Seriously the next movie won't come out for another year???

Jennifer, I love the pictures of the kids, especially the ones in the leaves, *sigh*, fun memories for me of kids then raising grandkids too, with LOTS of leaves in the front yard until after they were grown. Good times :o) ... I also love that the ladies shared their coupons with you. Whenever I go to Joanns I rarely use all my coupons, so I always always wander around a bit an *hanging head in shame here* eavesdrop a bit when folks are pondering a purchase *blush*. It just so much fun to see their eyes light up when I ask if they have coupons and usually they don't, so I pull out whatever I have and tell them to use what the need and please pass the rest on. Almost as fun as leaves, LOL. Everyone loves to save money, especially these days. Big Hugs...

Such cute little goodies you made. Love the fabric. Going to pop over and check out the zipper tutorial and I really need to make an eyeglass case for my sunglasses. You need to get on the Joann's email list for coupons but don't be surprised if you have to do it a few times. Their computer system must be as ancient as the hills. Yeah to you for your massive savings.

I think I may be inspired to try some ruffles! They look great!

Also, quiet rest time (QRT) in my house is a precious hour of the day. I hear ya!

Believe it or not, I have read all the Twilight books, and yet not seen any of the movies. Although we did have a BIG Twilight party and it was VERY fun. We even each had our pictures taken holding an apple.

I will check out that tutorial because I broke two needles doing zipper ends. Geez...

If the leaves are not in your yard you can enjoy them and don't have to pick them all up!

Cute glasses cases! Have you tried reading Stephanie Meyer's other book The Host - good read and no vampires just aliens!

Wow, I thought JoAnn's was bad Thursday, but the line was only about 10 people deep! I cannot wait to see your new quilts; I bet you are relieved to have so much accomplished. The zipper pouches are adorable, too!

I love those pouches. That blue fabric is fantastic! and yay for getting a joann's. I wish ours was bigger. We miss a lot of things (like the Denise Schmidt line).

Wow - what a weekend indeed! Can't wait to see your finishes. The zips are PERFECT - nicely done.

I'm not much on the whole Twilight thing. I hope this won't damage that whole Pinterest-twinsy thing we've got going on. :)

Our relationships with Harry Potter/Twilight/ and now Hunger Games are all bittersweet. We can't wait for them to come out, and then we are sad when they are over.
At my JoAnn's, I think they hire the slowest people on the planet.

Don't you just love the way children find delight in simple things...like leaves!

Yeah - so excited that Joann's has finally made it to Charlotte. I come from Australia every year to visit my brother in Charlotte, and it's always bummed me out that there wasn't one!

Cute pouches and eye glasses cases. How do you make the ruffles? Kids are so cute and you look like you are having so much fun in the leaves.
