Bees are buzzing

So my month in the New Newbie Bee was coming up, and I was quite undecided about what block to choose. The Newbie Bee members use their own stash to complete most of the blocks so I had to pick something that lent itself to some great fabrics.

I searched the Quilting Bee Block group on flickr and found lots of good ideas.  I browsed my list of favorite photos, (You can see my complete addiction to bookmarking inspirations here.) and tried my hand at a few test blocks. I was completely inspired by this block by Muriel.  After giving it a shot myself, this was indeed the winner.

I love the orderliness of this block and the perfection of the points coming together in the middle. (This did not happen in all of the blocks I made but it came close.) Mostly I just loved the way the colors look friendly together side by side like a color wheel.

Here are the four blocks I made myself.

I love the square they make in the middle but I may add sashing- it depends on how it looks all together and whether or not  the quilt is not big enough.  You can find the starflower block tutorial at Modify Tradition.

My fellow Newbies did a great job, and I can't wait to show you their hard work too.
